Guidelines for Attending Mass in-person at Mercy Parish
  • To comply with Diocese and state requirements Social Distancing must be maintained.

  • Each household who plans to attend weekend Mass must first make their intentions clear EACH FRIDAY by clicking on this Sign Up Genius Link. This allows us time to print the seating chart in advance for the Seating Coordinators.

  • If you are not on the list to attend Mass, it is not possible to guarantee that you will be allowed into the church.

  • Seats are assigned on a First-Come First-Served basis until 5 minutes before Mass at which time the empty seats in the sanctuary will be given to anyone as needed.

  • Ushers will be providing instructions on sanitizing and wearing masks. Please be courteous to your ushers. Their instructions are for the safety of everyone in attendance.

Each Mass is limited to 110 people while maintaining social distance of 6 feet between individuals or families. This is a firm number and cannot be exceeded.

**Please note**

1. Please specify how many are in your family when you sign up (click the # under "quantity") so that we get an accurate count and can group the chairs ahead of time.

2. Annotate in the sign up notes if you are a Lector (Cantor and Choir are not required to reserve seats).

3. Please update your sign up if you need to increase/decrease family size. If you are unable to attend, please delete your sign-up.

4. Be sure to check in upon arrival at church for direction to seats.

5. Do NOT change seats after you have been seated!

Bishop Raica's Decree Extending Dispensation from Mass due to COVID-19 through the Christmas Season
The Catholic Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama published a decree from His Excellency, Bishop Steven J. Raica, that hereby extend the dispensation from the obligation to assist at Holy Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation. Recognizing that infection rates for COVID-19 remain generally high in the territory of the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama and that the dispensation that Bishop Raica previously extended on August 19, 2020 shall soon expire, on November 22, 2020: The bishop hereby extends the dispensation from the obligation to assist at Holy Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation through Sunday, January 10, 2021 (inclusive) – the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord and the conclusion of the Christmas Season – for all the Roman Catholic faithful who reside in the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama.
You can view the full letter by clicking on this link, and everyone is encouraged to read it in full.
His Excellency, Bishop Steven J. Raica, in his letter dated November 17, 2020, has declared a "Year of the Parish and the Eucharist" starting with the First Sunday of Advent- November 29, 2020 in the diocese of Birmingham. Various Chancery offices will publish resources to aid pastors and leaders of ministries in how they may observe this important year. The Bishop writes in his letter, "Amidst the disorientation, distress and uncertainty we need to re-discover the value of being together with the Lord. We are made for community - and we Catholics recognize that our community should be united in the worship of God. This special year will be a time of grace and many blessings for us all"

Mercy Parish Advent Giving Tree
This year the Mercy Parish Youth Group will be sponsoring an Advent Giving Tree that will help local families in need have a great Christmas.  The MPYG will place the Advent Giving Tree in the Gathering Area November 21st and will be filling the tree with ornaments that provide information on a Christmas gift for an adult or child. Please consider taking an ornament and placing the listed item under the tree in the Gathering Area before December 6th.
If you can't make it to the Church to pull a tag, you can sign up for one by clicking on this link.
The Social Committee is sponsoring a Christmas Event in the Church Parking Lot on December 11 from 6-7 pm where everyone can safely participate!  Who doesn't like to decorate for Christmas?  If you would like to decorate your 'trunk' or set up a Christmas Tree or a Christmas-themed 'booth' in the socially distanced parking lot, then sign up on our website.  Your set-up must be complete by 6pm on the 11th for judging.  Prizes (e-gift cards) will be awarded to the top 3 displays. Or, you can just drive through the displays and vote under the canopy for the best display. The children riding through with their families will be able to see Santa Claus, drop off their letters to him and receive a small gift bag in return.  Please sign up by clicking on this link to enter the display contest or if you are driving thru, with the number of children coming to see Santa.  Remember to put the number of children in your comments so we can plan adequately for their gift bags.
Women of Mercy Cookie Exchange &
Purse Project
All WoM are invited to attend our monthly gathering on Dec 1st at 6pm.  It has been a long time since we have seen each other in person!
We will be social distancing and wearing masks as we assemble donated purses with personal hygiene products and exchanging everyone's favorite Christmas cookies. Please wrap your cookies individually or put 2-3 in baggies for safety.
To sign up for this event, please click on this link.
Giving during our Mass limitations

Some of you have asked about giving during this time of limited attendance at Masses. Our Finance Council has put together a couple of ways to respond to these inquiries.
First is a note about our routine, weekly giving - alternatives are provided by clicking on this link.
Secondly, our Finance Council has worked with Amazon to set up AmazonSmile, where Amazon donates 0.5% of the price of eligible purchases. To support Most Merciful Jesus Catholic Church, click on this unique charity link.
Communion Opportunities
Recognizing that not everyone will feel comfortable attending Mass in person or be able to due to the restricted numbers or health risk category, Holy Communion will be provided by a Deacon under the canopy each weekend.
  • Saturday 6:00-6:30pm

  • Sunday 9:45-10:15am

Most Merciful Jesus I thank you with all my heart for giving me Yourself in this Holy Eucharist; body, blood, soul and divinity.

May this precious gift enlighten me with the power to be your Mercy.

O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament divine, all praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine.

Most Merciful Father,

We thank You for Your unconditional love and infinite mercy.  We turn to You with grateful hearts for bringing us from far and near and uniting us as Your loving family.

We pray for your blessing and guidance as we continue to build your Kingdom at Mercy parish.  Give us a spirit of cooperation, and a generous sacrificial heart.  May all those who support this mission find Your constant protection.  Inflame us with the fire of your love so that we may become instruments of your Mercy to all Your creation.  Humbly we pray through the intercession  of our Blessed Mother and Your Beloved Son Jesus Christ our Lord

– Amen.

Most Merciful Jesus -- Have Mercy on us.

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament of the altar. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You Sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart ... I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.
